Who is in charge of Clear?

Clear is a registered traveler program. It is operated by Verified Identity Pass, Inc., a privately owned company. The program is authorized and regulated by the airport in which it operates and the U.S. Government's Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

TSA performs a "Security Threat Assessment" of all applicants. Then, TSA makes a decision about whether an applicant can join the Program and notifies Clear of its decision.

TSA also regulates Clear and oversees all of the security processing at the checkpoint in the airport, as it does at all airport checkpoints across the country.

What if the national threat level is raised?

The U.S. Government's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) oversees the registered traveler Program. In the event that the Department of Homeland Security raises the nationwide alert level, TSA may change the operation of the registered traveler program, as it may with the operation of any security lane at the airport. Our commitment to you is that if for any reason TSA suspends the operation of the Clear lane, we will add those missed days to the end of your membership year.
